International School Link – Ghana
Samuel Whitbread Academy has links with a sister school in Kwahu-Tafo Ghana. This link has been operational for over 15 years. After a 3 year break from the link to due changes in Tafo and the development chief (Humphrey Barclay) retired, the link was almost lost. Thankfully in July 2019 the link was reignited. The sixth form has taken on the link with the Methodist Junior High School and will work closely with the school to educate and improvement personal and educational conditions for the students and staff in Tafo. This international link has clear learning opportunities for the sixth form students at SWA through fundraising events. The initiatives that SWA has fundraised for in the past to help and assist the school in Ghana have resulted in:
- Construction of a urinal
- Creation of a computer suite
- Construction of a staff room
- Setting up of an SWA scholarship scheme to assist the most able students at the Methodist Junior High School to progress further with their education
As a sixth form we will continue to work with our sister school, the Tafo development council and the development chiefs to continue this link and made further improvements for students in Ghana. Long may this link continue.
If you have any questions regarding this link or if you would like to help in any way, please contact the Head of Sixth Form, Mr Huckle.
