Samuel Whitbread Academy Hosts 2025 Model UN Event

Students from nine local schools united to discuss and debate pressing global issues.

On Monday, January 27th, Samuel Whitbread Academy proudly hosted a Model United Nations event, welcoming teams from nine different schools across Bedfordshire. We were honoured to have Dr Alan Lee, the CEO of BEST, deliver a warm welcome and motivational introduction, alongside our Principal, Mr Martin.

Model United Nations provides students with the opportunity to simulate the procedures of the United Nations, where they engage in discussions and debates about pressing global issues, including war and climate change. Each participating school was assigned a country to represent, and students prepared to argue for their country's stance on a crucial topic: “We need to create the ‘beginning of the end’ of the fossil fuel era by laying the groundwork for a swift, just, and equitable transition to low-carbon economies, supported by deep emissions cuts and increased financial support. It is time to move away from fossil fuels to power our cars, industries, and homes. What actions is your country willing to take to initiate this transition?”.

The event featured informative presentations and spirited debates as students collaborated to develop resolutions for this significant issue. During lunch, students took the opportunity to strategise about potential alliances with other countries while enjoying a delicious pizza lunch together.

We commend all students who participated on this day; they represented their schools and countries with enthusiasm and pride. It was a fantastic opportunity for our young leaders to engage in meaningful dialogue about the future of our planet.

Participating schools included Samuel Whitbread Academy, Pixbrook Academy, Etonbury Academy, Daubeney Academy, Stratton Academy, Challney Girls Academy, Robert Bloomfield Academy, Lea Manor High School, and Henlow Academy.

Congratulations to everyone involved for making this event a memorable success!
