Rugby U16 7s: A Winning Start to the Season!
The U16 7s kicked off their season in style, bringing home the tournament trophy after an impressive performance. The first match proved to be a tough challenge, but valuable lessons learnt helped the squad grow in confidence for the rest of the group games.
Winning all four group games secured them a place in the final against Loughborough Grammar School. The match was fiercely contested, with LGS leading 19-14 at half-time. However, a dominant second-half display saw SWA take control, finishing with a well-earned 35-19 victory! A fantastic effort from all the players involved – they now look ahead to two more tournaments before the highlight of the season at Rosslyn Park.
U16 National Cup: A Strong Run Comes to an End
The Year 11 rugby team’s impressive National Cup journey saw them overcome Oakham and Rugby School to reach the quarter-finals against Northampton School for Boys. Aware of the strength of their opponents, the team entered the match with belief and a growing sense of confidence.
The opening 25 minutes were dominated by NSB, who took an early 7-0 lead. SWA responded with powerful attacking play, but a penalty infringement on the try line resulted in a yellow card, leaving the team with 14 men at the start of the second half. Despite this setback, the boys showed incredible determination, battling back to 14-7 and putting NSB under real pressure. With a draw enough to send SWA through as the away team, they gave everything in the final moments, but NSB held firm and progressed to the semi-finals, where they went on to defeat Stamford.
Though the cup run ended here, the team should be incredibly proud of their performances. The victories against Oakham and Rugby School will be remembered for a long time – a testament to their hard work and commitment throughout the season.
