Art & Textiles
Curriculum Intent
Art and Textiles promote the visual learner and thinker. Learning through and about the visual arts enriches the experience of studying while at school as well as preparing students for life after school. Arts and textiles encourage self-expression and creativity and can build confidence as well as a sense of individual identity.
Imagination and Creativity.
Students can take their experiences of the world and transform them through art, making new connections and relationships through their inventive minds, exploring, building on and recording their own creative and imaginative ideas.
Expression.
Making artwork or visual outcomes allows students to express our feelings and ideas, both as a means of self-expression and to communicate to others.
Visual thinking encourages students to think about and understand the world visually, instead of restricting learning and the acquisition of knowledge to words and numbers alone.
Observational skills. Observing the subject matter of the real-world scene we are drawing from more closely, and makes students better observers of detail in the world around them, creating their visual sensitivity to the world.
Problem solving and analytical skills. Developing imagery or visual outcomes enables students to explore and test out ideas, while making decisions on how they choose to depict them.
Autonomy. Creating their own work to decide what it communicates, building up confidence and self-esteem.
