Academic Enrichment & Extension Opportunities
Lecture Opportunities:
Students are regularly invited to attend internal and external venue lectures, both physically and virtually. These lectures aim to broaden the minds of students and give them a taster of some of the wider topics that can be studied in mathematics. The lectures are provided by the Mathematics Association, the NCETM, The Society of Samuel Whitbread Academy, and many more fantastic institutions.
TED Talks:
There are TED talks available for each module of the A Level course.
Mathematics Sixth Form Learning Platform on Google Drive:
Here students are encouraged, reminded, and required to use the resource to help their continued study. Resources include PowerPoints for every unit of work, links to online support, past paper resources, examiner commentary for every paper and other electronic resources all designed to help students become successful, independent learners of Mathematics.
United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Senior Maths Challenge:
Run once a year, students are encouraged to enter in the competition. It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. Each year Samuel Whitbread students benefit from being awarded Bronze, Silver or Gold awards depending on their success.
